Where Are We Going?

This is one of my first real attempts at poetry. It’s definitely not my strength but I felt I needed to stretch myself a little. Enjoy.

To the child in the backseat
The road remains a mystery
Scenes of confusion on every side
The bigger unknown looming in front of me
Where are we going?
Lord, where does this lead?

The fires of this world are burning dark
Without light and reason and love
All are born blind
But now many refuse to ever see
Truth is avoided
Feelings are what is believed
The most self-righteous
Are always the first deceived
Where are we going?
Lord, where does this lead?

I know your Hand is on the wheel
I feel the road underneath
Why do I fight for control
When I know I cannot see?
The world whispers lies in my ears
While drawing the curtain between you and me
Trust is not my nature
You have to begin that step for me
Where are we going?
Lord, where does this lead?

Help me remember Lord
That surrendering to you doesn’t make me weak
In your Light there is no blind faith
It is your yoke that makes men free
You said you would never leave nor forsake
Help me believe this is true today.

Where are we going?
Lord, where does this lead?
Right where I want you to be
I’ll watch the road
You keep your eyes on me.

This certainly beautiful. Love the finale. Subtle yet wonderful.
